A football player in division 7 is convicted of two cases of assault after assaulting an opponent and a referee during a match, reports DN.
The player, who is in his 30s, played for a Stockholm team but is now suspended. He is sentenced by Södertörn District Court to a conditional sentence and community service, and is also required to pay a total of approximately 70,000 kronor in damages.
The incident occurred during a match in the summer of 2023. The referee needed to undergo surgery after sustaining a fracture in his wrist, and according to the verdict, the now-convicted man hit his opponent in the head.
The man has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
