Sweden has tried to get one of the criminal network Foxtrot's identified leaders extradited from Serbia – but he has now been released on parole, reports P4 Skaraborg.

The man, who is in his 40s, is suspected of having controlled a large-scale drug trade in Sweden from abroad. He was arrested in Serbia in October last year in a collaboration between Swedish and Serbian police.

He has since been detained, but is now released on parole with a travel ban. Serbia has a rule that means you cannot be detained for more than a year.

The extradition process has been delayed. The Swedish prosecutor believes that the man has managed to influence the process so that it could not be completed on time.

The prosecutor does not want to comment until the official message from the Serbian court has arrived, reports P4 Skaraborg.
