Germany's new temporary border controls are now in place, in the aftermath of the heated migration debate that began after a knife attack in Solingen at the end of August.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser promises, however, that the control will be carried out so that "people in border areas, commuters, and companies are affected as little as possible", reports the Danish news agency Ritzau.

For example, from Luxembourg, controls are being carried out at the A1/64 motorway leading to Trier. Along several roads into the country, the control is more sporadic.

But we are present throughout the entire border area. However, it's about mobile control units, explains Stefan Döhn from the German police to the newspaper Luxemburger Wort.

The new controls apply at the border with France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Similar controls have already been in place against countries in the east and south since earlier.
