Germany's parliament, the Bundestag, voted on Friday to tighten the country's rules for asylum seekers. The vote comes after a number of high-profile violent incidents, including the knife attack in Solingen on August 30, in which three people were killed.
Among other things, benefits will be withdrawn from asylum seekers who have already been registered in other EU countries and those who are to be deported.
In the Federal Council, part of the package aimed at expanding police powers, including comparing faces and voices using the internet, was subsequently blocked.
