Over six million prescription tablets have been seized and 47 people have been arrested in a coordinated effort by Estonian, Finnish, Romanian, and Serbian police, announces EU's judicial cooperation Eurojust.
The organization is said to have smuggled prescription medicines to, among others, Finland and Norway. 61 addresses were simultaneously searched in Romania, Serbia, and Finland on Thursday.
"The criminal group, which operated throughout Europe, bought tablets from other criminal networks in Serbia", writes Eurojust.
"The tablets, which are used to treat anxiety, seizures, and insomnia, were then hidden in tires, in cars transported on trucks, and in clothes brought to Romania".
The drugs were then smuggled to Estonia and the Nordic countries, where gang members are said to have sold the drugs on the street.
Weapons, mobile phones, and luxury cars were also seized in the raid.
