It is now clear who will take over the role as head coach for the Swedish biathlon team. It will be Ulf Eriksson, who has been a coach for the Japanese cross-country skiing team for the past three seasons.
"I look forward with great confidence to the task as head coach for the biathlon team. A strong team that has had a fine development and getting to be part of building it further feels exciting and inspiring. Now I look forward to meeting and getting to know my new colleagues," says Eriksson in a press release.
For Hanna Öberg, Sebastian Samuelsson, and the other biathlon stars, the two coming seasons await with VM 2025 in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, and thereafter the big goal: OS 2026 in Milano and Cortina, Italy.
"Ulf has the profile we were looking for. He has the right qualities both as a coach and as a leader through his background as an entrepreneur. We look forward to Ulf leading the coaching team's further development towards upcoming championships," says Rikard Grip, Secretary General of the Biathlon Association.
The previous head coach, Kent Norell, chose in May to leave his position in the national team after 15 years on the post.
"I have worked in the role as head coach for about 15 years and now feel that I want to take on new challenges in my working life. It's time for someone else to take over and step in with new energy and enthusiasm," he said then.
