The Lebanese movement, which has been carrying out regular attacks on Israel from the north, has published a letter allegedly sent by Sinwar. It is dated to Monday this week and addressed to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Sinwar thanks Nasrallah for Hezbollah's and other Iran-backed groups' "blessed" interventions in the war, which he largely characterizes as "an honorable struggle for the Palestinian people".
Yahya Sinwar was the extremist movement Hamas' highest political leader in the Gaza Strip at the outbreak of the war. He is held responsible for the attacks on Israel on October 7, where more than 1,100 people, mostly civilians, were killed. After the attacks, Israel declared war and launched extensive attacks, where large parts of the Gaza Strip have been devastated and tens of thousands of its inhabitants have been killed.
Sinwar, who is in hiding while several of his leadership colleagues have been killed, is considered by the Israeli government as a crucial target to bring an end to the war.
