The number of construction starts increased in September, according to Byggfakta's so-called Construction Start Indicator. The indicator rose by 0.4 percent compared to the previous month.

"The Construction Start Indicator rose in September and is now approaching the peak levels of 2021. Above all, it is the recovery in residential construction that has contributed to the increase so far this year, but also construction starts for projects linked to infrastructure investments," says Tor Borg, chief analyst at Citymarks Analysis and Byggfakta, in a press release.

For dwellings, the indicator rose by 1.2 percent, while other construction increased by 0.1 percent.

However, when it comes to residential construction, there is still a way to go to reach the 2021 levels. Then, nearly 70,000 construction starts for dwellings were made at an annual rate. This year, the figure is expected to land at 26,000.

"One should remember that construction costs are about 25 percent higher today than three years ago, so calculated in volume – square meters or similar – it is far from reaching previous peaks," says Tor Borg.
