After 37 seasons as an active player, the Czech hockey legend Jaromir Jagr is now choosing to end his hockey career.

The now 52-year-old forward confirms to The Athletic that he will retire when this year's Czech season is over.

Just a few days ago, he hinted that it was coming in a post on Instagram.

Jagr is currently playing for the Czech team Kladno, but for most of his career, he played in the NHL – from 1990 to 2017. He has won the Stanley Cup twice, with Pittsburgh, won the scoring title five times, and was selected to the league's all-star team seven years. He has also won two World Championship gold medals and one Olympic Games gold medal with the Czech Republic.

As recently as last winter, he had his jersey with the number 68 retired for good.
