According to state-controlled Iranian media, the 60-kilo Chamran-1 has reached its orbit and begun sending signals to Earth. The satellite's mission is said to be to test hardware and software adapted for space.
The rocket used in the launch was built by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, reports state-owned domestic media.
Western countries have long warned that Iran's space program aims to improve the country's development of ballistic missiles. Saturday's Iranian satellite launch is the first to take place under newly inaugurated President Masoud Pezezhkian.
