The ban on the media company Al Jazeera has been extended, announces Israel's Justice Department. The renewed ban will be in effect for 35 days.

In early May, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera was shut down in Israel following accusations of biased and one-sided reporting on the war in Gaza. Last week, a court in Tel Aviv ruled that the media company would be allowed to resume its operations in the country on Sunday, but that will not happen.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has had a long-standing dispute with Al Jazeera, which is one of the few media houses with reporters and photographers on the ground in Gaza who can report on the war's effects.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi has recently called the company a "mouthpiece for terrorism in Hamas' service".

Al Jazeera has categorically rejected the Israeli accusations and accused Israel of systematically targeting their employees in Gaza.

A number of Western countries and international organisations have condemned Israel's actions against Al Jazeera.
