An Israeli couple has been arrested on suspicion of espionage, after allegedly "performing tasks" on behalf of an Iranian spy cell in the country.
The couple is said to have been recruited by an Azerbaijani man who, on behalf of Iranian interests, recruits Israelis originating from the Caucasus. According to the police, they then gathered intelligence on national infrastructure and sensitive Israeli locations, including the headquarters of Israel's spy agency Mossad.
They are also suspected of gathering information about an academic working on national security in Tel Aviv.
As recently as last week, Israel's security service reported that two other suspected spy rings had been exposed, also linked to Iran.
