Backstar Pontus Jansson is mentioned in an investigation into violent rioting and he is suspended by Malmö FF. On Instagram, he explains now.

"I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart," writes Jansson.

Last week, Malmö FF announced that captain Pontus Jansson would not be included in the team for the Allsvenskan match against Brommapojkarna (2-2).

The reason was that the defender's name is mentioned in an investigation where 14 people are suspected of, among other things, violent rioting, something that Jansson himself informed MFF about.

Pontus Jansson, who is not suspected of any crime, has been part of a group chat that several supporters have belonged to, and the former national team player is said to have leaked sensitive information in the group according to media reports.

The 33-year-old admits that he belonged to the group chat, but denies having leaked harmful information.

"It simply doesn't match, I haven't contributed to such information as is alleged. That I figure in an investigation and that the media speculates and spreads incorrect information is unfortunate for both me and MFF," writes Jansson on his Instagram.

The reigning Swedish champion explains that he joined the group to help the club in his heart to get the support of the fans.

"With that said, a jargon has been used within the framework of this chat group that I do not stand behind and strongly distance myself from. I have left the group but should have left the group much earlier."

Jansson asks for forgiveness for what has happened and hopes to be back on the pitch for MFF soon, as the club has initiated an internal investigation into the player.

"It hurts me if someone has taken offense, it has never been my intention for someone to feel offended. Personally, I would rather be back with the boys and the team as soon as possible, but I have full understanding and respect for the ongoing process.
