A man in his 40s is acquitted of suspicion of violating the aviation regulations after flying a drone during the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, reports Sydsvenskan.

During the event, a temporary flight ban was in place for security reasons.

The man has denied the crime, citing that it was difficult to understand the Transport Agency's decision.

During the investigation, it emerged that the Transport Agency had written incorrectly in the decision, stating May 12, 2023, as the end date, which was a year earlier.

The prosecutor believes it is an "obvious writing error". The District Court does not agree and refers to the principle of legality, which means that no one can be punished for an act that was not punishable when it was committed.

Another man, who also sent up a drone during the Eurovision, was acquitted of the same suspicion in June. In its judgment, the District Court wrote that the flight ban was not announced through, for example, signage.
