A man at an elderly care home in Örebro county died after receiving the wrong type of catheter, reports Nerikes Allehanda.
In February this year, a nurse mistakenly inserted a catheter intended for women into the male patient. The mistake led to blood entering the patient's urine.
After the mistake was discovered, the man received pain relief and a new catheter, but he later experienced pain and was taken to hospital.
The next day, he died suddenly and unexpectedly. It is not possible to rule out that the catheter mistake caused the man's death, writes the elderly care home in its report to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate, which was made according to lex Maria.
