The Canadian Moïse Bombito tackled Lionel Messi in the opening match of the South American Football Championship.

Then, the 24-year-old received several racist messages from angry Messi supporters.

"My beloved Canada... No place for that nonsense", he writes on Instagram.

It was in the 82nd minute that Bombito attempted to clear a pass that was broken, and when he tried to rectify his mistake, he was forced to make a rough tackle on Lionel Messi.

After the tackle, Messi fell to the ground and received some treatment. Messi was able to continue playing and assisted in Argentina's 2-0 goal.

Despite this, the Canadian centre-back received several racist messages after the match.

Something that the Canadian team does not accept.

"Canadian football is aware and deeply disturbed by the racist comments online directed at one of our players after tonight's match. We are having discussions with Concacaf (North and Central American Football Confederation) and Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) about the matter", the national team writes on X.

Bombito himself also spoke out on his Instagram.

"My beloved Canada... No place for that nonsense", he writes.

Canada lost the opening match against Argentina 2-0.
