Nine people have died in the landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in southern China, where 372.4 millimetres of rain have been measured in a day.
Four people have died and two others are missing after landslides in Wuping in Fujian Province. At least 378 houses have collapsed in the area and 880 hectares of crops have been destroyed in Wuping, resulting in significant economic losses, according to the authorities, as reported by the state-run news agency New China (Xinhua).
In Guangdong Province, which borders Hong Kong, at least five people have died in landslides in Meizhou city. Fifteen others are missing, according to local media. In Meizhou, over 130,000 people have been affected by power outages and some towns and villages have been unable to be contacted since the power went out.
Helicopters and over 200 search teams are looking for survivors and delivering aid to the affected areas, according to local authorities.
