Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington on Tuesday, announced his government office on Sunday.
"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meeting with US President Joe Biden will take place on Tuesday at lunchtime", it says in a statement. Netanyahu will fly to the US on Monday and is expected to hold a speech in the US Congress on Wednesday.
This will be Netanyahu's first meeting at the White House since he again became Prime Minister at the end of 2022 and his first speech in Congress since 2015.
The meeting takes place at a sensitive time for the relations between Israel and the US. Earlier in July, Netanyahu informed his government that there had been a "dramatic decline" in US arms deliveries to Israel's war in Gaza last month. Several Congress members from the Democrats are expected to boycott Netanyahu's speech in protest against Israel's warfare in Gaza.
Earlier in July, American media reported that the US is resuming deliveries to Israel of the 230-kilogram bombs that had been held back since May, after increased concerns about the number of civilian casualties in Gaza. The shipments of the more powerful Mark 84, which weighs around 900 kilos, are still on hold.
