Sweden has no plans to receive and care for patients from Gaza, despite the EU Commission contacting Sweden with such a request, reports Göteborgs-Posten.
Norway and seven EU countries have announced that they will receive patients from Gaza, but there are currently no plans for Sweden to do the same, according to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
"Sweden has no government assignment related to Medevac from Gaza, which means that Sweden does not plan to receive patients or carry out air-borne medical transport/Medevac from Gaza to Sweden at present," writes MSB in an email to GP.
Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD) is responsible for the issue of medical evacuation from Gaza. She writes in an email response to the newspaper that Sweden supports Gaza and its surrounding areas by donating medical equipment and medical supplies through the EU's civil protection mechanism.
"Sweden is following developments, incoming requests, and continuously evaluating how Swedish support can be best formulated," she writes.
