An officer suffered serious injuries when Chinese vessels rammed Filipino vessels on Monday, according to the Filipino military in a statement.

The Filipino government accused Chinese vessels on Monday of ramming and damaging Filipino vessels in the South China Sea, near the disputed atoll Second Thomas Shoal.

"The People's Liberation Army's fleet, the Chinese coastguard and the Chinese naval militia's vessels engaged in dangerous manoeuvres, including ramming and towing", stated the Filipino national task force for the western Philippine Sea on Monday.

According to China's coastguard, a Filipino vessel in the area had ignored warnings from the Chinese side and that they therefore "took control measures".

"The Philippines is entirely responsible for this", stated China's coastguard in a statement.
