Poland were only supposed to fine-tune the details in a final European Championship dress rehearsal against Turkey.
Then something happened that absolutely shouldn't have happened.
Robert Lewandowski had to leave the pitch injured – with six days to go until the premiere.
It was after a corner in the 32nd minute that star striker Robert Lewandowski nodded away a corner. But the attacker didn't keep up with the counter-attack. Instead, he sat down, seemingly with a feeling.
After discussions with the team doctors, the 35-year-old then chose to leave the pitch after just half an hour of play. The attacker took himself off the pitch on his own, and looked unbothered when he reached the bench.
A few minutes later, he was filmed receiving treatment on his right leg.
And if that wasn't bad enough, Poland's other attacker for the day, Kamil Swiderski, also had to leave the pitch after just 19 minutes after landing awkwardly during a goal celebration.
As a result, there is a total attacking crisis in Poland ahead of the European Championship.
In just four days, three of Poland's attackers have now gone off injured. In a friendly match between Poland and Ukraine on 7 June, Arkadiusz Milik suffered a knee injury that will keep him out of the European Championship. The Juventus attacker was forced to undergo an operation and will therefore miss his second consecutive European Championship due to injury, just before the premiere.
Poland play their European Championship opener in just six days, on 16 June, when they face the Netherlands.
The dress rehearsal between Poland and Turkey ended 2–1 to Poland.
