Proposal: End to Frequent Driving Tests

Two mandatory guidance sessions instead of one and a ban on frequent re-examinations. These are some of the changes that the Transport Agency wants to see for driver education in the future. They also want the validity period for theory tests to be extended.

The Transport Agency, on behalf of the government, has reviewed the driver education system for category B driver's licenses, i.e. for passenger cars, and is now submitting proposals for changes.

One proposal is that those taking a driver's license should have two guided sessions at a driving school. Today, the requirement is for one such session. The requirement would apply to both those who are educated at a traffic school and those who are educated privately.

Another change is that the Transport Agency wants to extend the validity period of the theory test from the current four months to twelve. At the same time, the agency wants to remove the possibility of taking a new theory test or re-taking a test too soon after one that has been failed. A new test can be taken at the earliest two weeks after one that has been failed.

Other proposals submitted include a new special training for prospective supervisors, replacing today's introductory training.

The Transport Agency also wants to see expanded information on obtaining a driver's license in languages other than Swedish and for there to be more information available to driver's license students in digital channels.

The Education Agency should, according to the proposal, be tasked with developing an education course in traffic knowledge at adult education centers.
