In Kenya, the police are using tear gas against demonstrators. Young Kenyans have called on their fellow citizens across Kenya to protest against the government on Tuesday.

Roads are being blocked, shops are staying closed, and the Kenyan newspaper The Standard reports that the police are using tear gas against the demonstrators.

The protest, which goes by the name "Rage and courage", is demanding that President William Ruto resign, the newspaper reports. On social media, the message is being spread using hashtags such as "RutoMustGo".

The Kenyan protests have been ongoing in varying intensity for several weeks. The largely peaceful protests were triggered by dissatisfaction with significant tax increases, mainly among young Kenyans.

On June 25, the parliament in Nairobi was stormed and several people were killed when the police opened fire on the demonstrators.

Since then, President Ruto has backed down on the tax increases and promised cuts in things like the government's travel budget, in response to criticism of what is perceived as the rulers' extravagance.
