Most restrictions were lifted on Wednesday in the area around Fagersta, which has been affected by African swine fever, according to a press release from the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The decision was made after the Swedish Board of Agriculture's Veterinary and Food Administration (SVA) did not find any active transmission in its latest survey of carcasses in the area.

All forestry will now be allowed in the area, and the food, straw, and livestock that are harvested will no longer need to be stored. The restriction on the number of people who can stay in the core area is also lifted. Even dogs will be allowed to be let loose throughout the area.

However, some restrictions will continue to apply. For example, it is still forbidden to keep pet pigs and wild boars in the area. The fence around the infected core area will also remain in place to ensure that no wild boars enter.

According to SVA, there has been no transmission in the area since September 2023.
