Untagged – but it's not current to jump.

Khaddi Sagnia chooses not to go to the EM in Rome.

"I don't want to come to the championships and not be able to do myself justice," says the long-distance star.

Sagnia was plagued by injuries last year but still chose to compete at the VM in Budapest. When she missed the final, she ended the season.

The break was long.

With the goal of recovering, Sagnia was over the indoor season – including the indoor VM in Glasgow in March – and made her first competition since last summer at the Diamond League meeting in Suzhou at the end of April.

After the premiere, the 30-year-old has competed in Dubai, Kalamata, and Budapest – but there will be no participation in the EM in Rome.

"I'm not in as good shape as I would like," she says to the Swedish Athletics Federation's website.

"I would only disappoint myself if I couldn't live up to my expectations."

Instead of the championships in Italy, Sagnia chooses to focus on training and SM at the end of June.

"I've learned through the years to listen to my body and feel how it feels. Now we've come to the conclusion that it's better to stay at home, train, and try to do as well as possible at SM instead," she says.

Team captain Kajsa Bergqvist:

"Khaddi has had a promising start to the season after a longer competition break, so this came as a surprise to me. She seemed positive when she said yes last week," she says.

"I hope she'll be back in good shape soon."

Earlier in the week, long jump colleague Thobias Montler withdrew from the EM. The 28-year-old is struggling with a hurt ankle.

The EM in Rome starts on Friday and runs until June 12.
