Secured final spots for herself and the team

The national team captain Bo Jenå brought out his blue-yellow applause gloves and took a little extra. Clearly, he was pleased. Therese Nilshagen gallantly led the Swedish dressage riders to Saturday's team final – and herself to the individual final.

Nilshagen and her long-time companion Dante Weltino entered the arena and delivered stable 73,991 percent.

Then Jenå waved vigorously with the giant gloves he always brings with him when it gets intense in the big events.

She did a very good round in this heat, says Jenå.

So good that it also earned Nilshagen a spot in the individual final, Kür, on Sunday. She has company from Patrik Kittel.

Unique in the Olympic Games

The Nilshagen/Dante team has consistently delivered in all championships – Olympic Games, World Championship, and European Championship – since their breakthrough at the home European Championship in Gothenburg 2017.

This makes them unique in Versailles.

We are the only team of all here who have ridden championships for so long.

The points could have been a bit higher, but the performance was in line with what Nilshagen had hoped for.

A well-balanced ride. A good start. It's still the team final that's the important one. We're on our way, says Nilshagen.

Enjoyed the atmosphere

In the midst of all the tension, she also took in the mighty experience in the Versailles palace park.

I tried to look up and enjoy it sometimes. I've had the honor of riding a few championships, but this beats everything. When you ride up to the center line and see all the audience and then when you start your extended gallop and see the castle.

Can it get any better? It feels incredibly fun to get to do a championship like this and at the same time be satisfied.

Patrik Kittel's 74,317 and Juliette Ramel's 71,553 from Tuesday laid the foundation for the final round. It will be decided in a GP special that suits Nilshagen and Dante better than the qualifying grand prix.

What's the goal there, Bo Jenå?

We ride, the judges judge, and then we'll see how far it takes us, he says.
