Ran over Estonia – the stars delivered again

Full pot after the initial two matches – and the stars deliver. The national football team rolled over Estonia with 3–0 in the Nations League C-division. The attacking duo Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak had just as much fun as in Baku.

Then Isak sent in two balls, Gyökeres one in the 3-1 win against Azerbaijan. Four days later, at home on Strawberry arena, the distribution was reversed.

I think the first half was brilliant. We played fast, we played forward, we got into positions, says national team coach Jon Dahl Tomasson to Viaplay.

We should be satisfied with the steps we have taken, he continues.

He doesn't seem to be in a hurry to find a somewhat regular starting eleven. He is currently leaning towards a core of players - such as Viktor Johansson, Isak Hien, Yasin Ayari, Dejan Kulusevski, Isak, and Gyökeres.

Otherwise, he mixes and gives.

"Must give chances"

I think it's important that we use the entire team, that we give players chances and opportunities. We're still looking for a lot of things. We obviously want to win matches, but at the same time develop our game. You have to give players the chance to perform, says "JDT" to Viaplay.

Ludwig Augustinsson, Anthony Elanga, Mattias Svanberg, and Linus Wahlqvist Egnell, starters on Thursday, made way for Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Salétros, Niclas Eliasson, and Ken Sema.

Tactically, the national team went from 4-4-2 in Baku to 3-5-2 in Solna, with Eliasson and Sema as wingbacks and Kulusevski in a more central and free role behind the forwards Isak and Gyökeres.

It was full speed ahead from the start - after the minute of silence for the recently deceased Sven-Göran Eriksson - plenty of chances and elegant combinations.

A delicacy

But the ball has to go into the goal too. It wasn't until half an hour in that the reward came. Gyökeres took care of a rebound and dunked in 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Isak scored 2-0 and his 14th national team goal.

And then this delicacy on "Strawberry": Isak's lovely deep pass to Kulusevski, who via goalkeeper Karl Hein extended to Gyökeres, who got an open goal for his tenth goal in Blue and Yellow.

The lid was off, the job was done. Offensively. The vulnerability in the back remains. A better team than Estonia would have punished Sweden, who offered some freebies.

After two rounds, Sweden tops the group with six points. Slovakia has just as many. The meeting in Bratislava in a month will put the national team to a completely different test.

3-1 against Azerbaijan, away.

3-0 against Estonia, home.

October 14: Estonia in Tallinn at 8:45 PM.

November 16: Slovakia at Strawberry arena at 8:45 PM.
