The Riksbank's lowering of the interest rate on 8 May led the banks to adjust their variable mortgage rates. Danske Bank had the lowest average rate in May, reports Dagens industri.

All major lenders announced a reduction in their list rates for mortgages shortly after the Riksbank's announcement. Di has checked how the actual outcome turned out. In Danske Bank's case, the average rate for a three-month loan in May was 4.42 per cent – 0.24 percentage points lower than in April.

The range for, in turn, SBAB, SEB, Länsförsäkringar, Handelsbanken, Skandiabanken, Swedbank, and Nordea stretches from 4.53 per cent to 4.73.

It's difficult to draw conclusions when it's only been a month since the reduction, but I would think we'll see greater differences now if the experts are right and the Riksbank lowers at a fairly rapid pace during the year, says Christina Sahlberg, savings economist at the comparison service Compricer, to Di.

The Riksbank's lowering of the interest rate was by 0.25 percentage points to 3.75 per cent.
