In the summer, it will be difficult to have a picnic in front of the Sollidenscenen. The police's bag ban also applies to all song-hungry Skansen visitors.

We hope that as many as possible leave their bags at home, says Skansen's security chief Göran Kirsch.

Those who thought of bringing a picnic to Pernilla Wahlgren's performance of "Stockholm i mitt hjärta" this summer will have to think again. The bag ban also applies around Solliden at Skansen, and visitors will be searched upon entry.

We received the permit very late from the police, and it's a new thing, how we should relate to this. But searching visitors was a decision we had already made, considering the current security situation, says Göran Kirsch.

Limited space

However, on the rest of Skansen, visitors are free to bring bags as usual. Additionally, there is the possibility of storage for a fee at the main entrance.

But the space is limited when it comes to how many we can fit, so we hope that as many as possible have been informed and leave their bags at home.

The weather gods can be capricious during the summer. SVT's press spokesperson Marilinn Almgren Klevhamre tips about securing with rain gear – preferably in poncho form.

It's very good to have in the audience instead of umbrellas, which block the view for others, she says.

"Confused"

Dansbandsveckan in Malung recently received an exemption from the bag ban, and both Liseberg and Gröna Lund have changed their regulations regarding bags in front of the stage compared to the rest of the park. It's not surprising that people get confused and don't know what applies, says Göran Kirsch.

I can understand that one thinks it's strange that one can't bring in a bag even if it has been thoroughly searched. At the same time, I have full respect for the fact that the law is what it is and that the police apply the existing legislation.

Facts: The bag ban

In August 2023, the security police chief raised the terror threat level in Sweden from three to four – from "an elevated to a high threat" on a five-point scale. The assessment was not based on a single event but on threats over a longer period.

In November 2023, a bag ban was introduced at larger events following a police decision. The decision applies to larger sports events, concerts, and festivals.

The only exceptions to the ban are diaper bags on strollers and bags containing medicine or equipment that must be brought for medical reasons.
