The Government has decided on rules to support investments in capturing and storing carbon dioxide. This concerns support for so-called bio-CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) where the carbon dioxide has a biogenic origin.
The potential for this technology in Sweden is very good, but it is a technology that requires significant investments, says Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) at a press conference.
The Government has previously set aside 36 billion kronor between 2026 and 2046 for the support that will be distributed.
The EU Commission approved the new state aid on July 2 and the Government is now moving forward with a regulation, which means that companies will apply for support through so-called reverse auctions.
This is an important step to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045 and negative emissions thereafter, says Pourmokhtari.
