Swedish economy – gross national product (GNP) – decreased by 0.7% in April compared with the previous month, according to preliminary statistics from Statistics Sweden (SCB).
This can be compared with a decrease of 0.4% revised in March.
"Activity in the Swedish economy weakened slightly in the first month of the second quarter. The development is explained in part by a decline in household consumption and a slightly weaker production in the business sector," says Melker Loberg, economist at SCB, in a press release.
Compared to April last year, GNP was unchanged.
The monthly GNP indicator is intended to provide an early picture of the development of gross national product and is based on a more limited dataset than the ordinary quarterly figures.
