Sofia Hvenfelt injured her knee in the Olympic premiere against Norway.

Now the news comes that the Swedish midfielder will miss the rest of the tournament, announces the national handball team.

"I'm extremely disappointed and sad", says Hvenfelt in a statement.

It was at the end of the first half that Hvenfelt got an attacking player over her knee. After that, the 28-year-old received treatment behind the bench, before she had to leave completely.

Now the news comes that she has suffered a torn internal ligament, and will miss the rest of the Olympics.

"I'm extremely disappointed and sad that I can't play anymore. It has always been a dream to play in the Olympics and I'm grateful for what I've experienced so far. At the same time, it's mixed feelings and I'm incredibly proud of the girls and so happy that we won", she says in a statement.

She is now replaced by Olivia Löfqvist, who was listed as a reserve. Löfqvist plays for Norwegian Storhamar and has made ten national team appearances. However, it will be the 27-year-old's championship debut.

Despite this, national team coach Tomas Axnér feels confident with the replacement.

"We all sympathize with Sofia who can't play anymore in the Olympics. She's a player who has had a great season in both club and national team and is a great asset to the team both on and off the court with her attitude. Then we're confident with Olivia who has been with us throughout our build-up and who knows our game", he says to the national team's website.

Sweden plays its next match on Sunday, July 28, against Germany.
