Swedish duo on Olympic bronze spot: "Will chase gold"

After two days and six Olympic Games sailings, Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler were in 12th place in the 49er FX class. Now the Swedish women are in bronze medal position after the sequence 2–1–5. "It's not over until it's over. We're going to chase the gold", says Rebecca Netzler.

Olympic Games sailing competitions are decided in Marseille, but during the first two days, there has not been much wind to talk about. It was different on Tuesday.

"We have been waiting for this day. Finally, we got wind and could show what we're capable of. We're here to fight for medals and now we're doing it", says Vilma Bobeck in a press release from the Swedish Sailing Federation.

Together with Rebecca Netzler in the 49er FX two-woman dinghy, they achieved a second place in Tuesday's first sailing, but the Swedish crew won the second race. In the final sailing, they finished fifth and the Swedish women are in third place with three basic sailings left to sail.

On Wednesday, the three remaining basic sailings (out of twelve) are scheduled and the forecast shows the same conditions – 6–7 meters per second.

The top ten crews will sail a medal race on Thursday and then double points are at stake.

Bobeck/Netzler – who took World Championship gold in 49er FX in 2023 – have 18 points up to a French crew in second place. Up to the Dutch leaders Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz, who won the World Championship in the class in March, it's 22 points.
