Two cargo ships off the coast of Yemen have been hit by drones, reports maritime safety organizations.

A cargo ship caught fire after being hit by a drone in the Aden Gulf off the coast of Yemen on Saturday evening, according to the security firm Ambrey.

The fire on the ship was extinguished, and no casualties have been reported. A second drone is said to have missed the ship, which is flagged in Antigua and Barbuda. Small boats nearby also opened fire on the ship, which then changed course.

"The entire crew is reported to be unharmed and the ship is now continuing to the next port," says UKMTO, the British trade organization for maritime transport.

The Iran-backed Houthi movement, which has previously targeted maritime traffic, has not immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

In another incident on Sunday morning, a cargo ship was hit by a drone in the stern, according to UKMTO. This attack also resulted in a fire on the ship, but no casualties.

Ships passing through the area are advised by UKMTO to be cautious.

Several shipping companies have rerouted their vessels and are avoiding the Red Sea to avoid attacks from the Houthi movement. According to the movement, the purpose of the attacks on international maritime traffic is to support the Palestinians.
