In a post on social media, Peter Lundgren's son confirms his father's passing.

Peter Lundgren was part of the Swedish tennis sensation of the 80s that followed after Björn Borg. On the court, he achieved successes alongside players like Mats Wilander and Stefan Edberg.

Björn Borg expressed his sorrow to Aftonbladet after receiving the news of his friend's death.

Peter Lundgren was a wonderful person with a big heart and a lot of humor. He was a really good friend. He was loved by everyone. He will be missed in the tennis world, he says to the newspaper.

Lundgren won three ATP titles and reached as high as 25th place on the world ranking. After his playing career, he had a successful coaching career. He moved to Switzerland, where he trained superstar Roger Federer for four years and helped him win his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2003.

After Federer, he trained other top players like former world number one Marat Safin and Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka.

After many years abroad, Lundgren moved back to Sweden in 2020 and eventually settled in his old hometown of Sundsvall.

Aftonbladet reports that Lundgren was hospitalized last fall due to a lack of feeling in his feet as a result of his diabetes. After breaking his foot at home, an infection was discovered at the hospital, and he was forced to amputate his foot that same fall, the newspaper writes.
