The EU Commission has approved the Swedish and Danish state's participation in SAS's reconstruction process, after examining it against EU rules for state aid.

"The approval is another important step forward for SAS's transformation plan and ongoing reconstruction procedures", the airline writes in a press release.

SAS is involved in a bankruptcy protection process, a so-called chapter 11 procedure at a bankruptcy court in the USA. Conditions still remain to be fulfilled before it can go through, including SAS's corporate reconstruction in Sweden going through.

The company hopes that all processes will be completed during the summer.

In October, new owners were announced for SAS, which previously had the Danish and Swedish state as major shareholders. Denmark remains among the major shareholders, alongside, among others, the airline giant Air France-KLM.
