Approximately 2,000 people at several of the country's largest hospitals will go on strike on Tuesday. The emergency department at Östra hospital in Gothenburg will be closed for a week.
Östra hospital, which is part of Sahlgrenska university hospital, will reduce the number of beds slightly. The emergency department will also be closed between June 4th and June 10th.
The nurses' union strike affects university hospitals in Stockholm, Västra Götaland, Skåne, Östergötland, and Västerbotten, as well as Södersjukhus and Danderyd hospital.
At Skåne university hospital in Malmö, "advanced acute care beds will largely disappear", according to the hospital. In Lund, various forms of advanced X-ray will come to a complete standstill.
"A strike would also mean a significant increase in patient transports between hospitals, which could pose a threat to life and health," wrote Chief Physician Sven Karlsson in a written comment to TT last week.
At the university hospital in Linköping, care will be limited to emergency care and care that cannot be delayed.
In addition to the strike that breaks out on Tuesday, the Nurses' Union has issued a warning for June 11th, which includes an additional 1,900 people. This includes Region Västmanland and Region Värmland, as well as several healthcare centers.
Mattias Bjarnegård at Östra hospital emphasizes that it is important that patients do not avoid seeking care if they need it.
