Golfdiscus Jesper Svensson accepts that he has landed in the spotlight.
Upsala golfer went into a public ball together with the Swedish women's stars Linn Grant (–5 and tied for fifth) and Madelene Sagström (–1 and tied for 49th) when the European tour tournament Scandinavian Mixed started at Vasatorps GC.
Svensson played recently in front of a clearly larger audience. In mid-May, he played his first major tournament in his career in the form of the PGA Championship in Kentucky, USA. Already during the first training round, the 28-year-old felt the pressure of the public.
The major debut ended with a tied 53rd place and now he is chasing a membership on the US tour. The top 10 in the European Tour's total standings after the season will receive a PGA Tour card for next season.
The journey to get there has been going at a breakneck pace. A successful 2023 on the under-tour gave him a membership card on the European Tour and already during the debut season, Svensson became a winner. In March, he won in Singapore after a playoff and the Swede is currently third in the standings.
Countryman Sebastian Söderberg accounted for a brilliant round on Thursday afternoon. He was not noted for a single bogey in the round, and with an eagle and seven birdies, the 33-year-old leads the tournament nine strokes under par (63 strokes).
