The Left Party is reporting Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson (M) to the Constitutional Committee for a statement about the new unemployment insurance.

She is lying when she says it won't lead to savings, says the party's economic policy spokesperson Ida Gabrielsson.

The government's new proposal for unemployment insurance means that the ceiling in the unemployment insurance will be raised, but also that the compensation will be phased out faster. Another change is that income will determine the compensation instead of working hours as it is today.

According to the Finance Minister, the reform will not be a cost-saving measure. But according to the Left Party, which has had the Riksdag's Research Service (RUT) examine the claim, the government's new proposal instead means a significant saving.

They are lying straight to the voters' faces. It's a major saving of 3.6 billion kronor, says Ida Gabrielsson, the party's economic policy spokesperson to TT.

The reform leads to cuts in the unemployment insurance that also hit those with the lowest incomes, according to the party.

Those who will notice this are LO workers. It can mean a difference of thousands of kronor less in their pockets because in the future they will qualify for unemployment insurance through their salary and not working hours, says Ida Gabrielsson.

The maximum level is raised to 80 percent of 34,000 kronor, i.e. 27,200 kronor. Today, the ceiling is at 80 percent of 33,000 kronor, which means 26,400 kronor.

From compensation day 101, the levels are phased out by ten percentage points and by a further five percentage points after compensation day 201.

After 300 compensation days, there is the possibility of receiving activity support if unemployment continues. But the activity support will also be phased out by five percentage points every hundred days, down to a floor of 365 kronor per day.
