The men's national team players want the women to have the same conditions. In the new agreement with the Danish Football Association, which comes into effect after the European Championship in Germany and runs until 2028, they have therefore declined a salary increase and reduced their compensation by 15 per cent.

This is being done to increase the women's compensation by 50 per cent.

Instead of seeking better conditions for themselves, the players prioritised supporting the women's team, says chairman Michael Sahl Hansen of the Danish players' association.

This was what they wanted. It showed that they take responsibility. They liked the idea of giving other national teams better opportunities and conditions.

Players Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Simon Kjær and Kasper Schmeichel participated in the negotiations.

Denmark's men's national team enters the European Championship finals in Germany on Sunday, when Slovenia awaits. Then the group stage continues against England and Serbia.
