As a consequence of the factory in Skellefteå having to be partially shut down, Northvolt is also announcing cutbacks.
The municipal director of Skellefteå municipality, Kristina Sundin Jonsson, is not worried about today's news, however.
For me, this does not evoke any concern for the future. This is a company that is conducting a strategic review, she says and continues:
You have to think about the fact that when Northvolt first landed in Skellefteå, there were supposed to be 2,500 employees when everything was complete, she says and points out that there are already significantly more today.
She believes instead that it is positive that the company is reviewing its organization.
Sometimes you need to put on the brakes.
There is currently an extreme societal transformation underway, not least in Skellefteå with, among other things, large immigration, says Kristina Sundin Jonsson.
But this place consists of more than just Northvolt. We have several large industries that have also invested here, including Boliden.
We feel well-equipped to meet whatever comes. Right now, we do not feel any concern that we need to revise our investment plans, she adds.
