The oldest brother breaks the silence: "Took a chokehold"

The Norwegian running brothers Ingebrigtsen have broken with their father Gjert, who is charged with assaulting one of his younger children. Now the eldest brother is telling about violent incidents during his upbringing. He grabbed me by the throat with both hands, says Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen.

Last year, the successful runners Henrik, Filip, and Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke with their father and coach Gjert, accusing him of physical violence against them during their upbringing.

Their older brother Kristoffer now feels it's time for him to speak out as well.

It's good that people know, he says to Aftenposten.

Maybe he's doing it for his brothers' sake, since Gjert Ingebrigtsen continued as a coach after the break with his sons and is now coaching their competitor Narve Gilje Nordås.

It feels like he's been able to set the terms, says Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen about his father.

In the magazine, he tells about his father taking a chokehold on him and an incident where his father stood with his knee on his brother Henrik's head, then two-three years old, and pressed his head against the floor.

The worst things you don't forget.

Kristoffer Ingebrigtsen says he's never told anyone about the violence at home before.

It's a bit shameful. Almost a bit embarrassing. We were brought up with the idea that boys don't cry. You just have to stand out and endure everything.

Gjert Ingebrigtsen is only being prosecuted for assaulting one of the seven children, the youngest, since what happened to the older ones is statute-barred or because there is no evidence.
