The Parents Appeal the Verdict

The Court of Appeal sentenced both parents to eight years in prison in the so-called vinegar case. Now they are appealing the verdict to the Supreme Court, which Skånska Dagbladet was the first to report on.

It was in December 2022 that a cold, thin little girl with life-threatening vinegar poisoning was admitted to the pediatric emergency department in Lund.

The parents were sentenced to eight years in prison by the Lund District Court, but then appealed the verdict. The Court of Appeal subsequently upheld the parents' sentence. They were convicted of giving their daughter life-threatening amounts of vinegar, holding her captive, and a number of other serious crimes.

The parents have declared themselves completely innocent of committing any crime against their daughter. Point by point, they have provided alternative explanations.

Prosecutor Ingegerd Jigin tells Sydsvenskan that she is satisfied with the Court of Appeal's verdict, but that it was expected that the parents would appeal it.

I do not expect it to be something that the Supreme Court takes up. They only take up cases that can set a precedent, she says to the newspaper.
