The past week has seen a wave of violence sweep over Malmö. This has included a murder in a residential area, a hand grenade attack, and a restaurant bombing.

The events have led the police to redistribute their resources, writes Sydsvenskan. Among other things, Malmö residents will see more patrolling police officers, and there may also be talk of visitation zones.

Our main focus is, of course, on preventing further violent crimes, together with many other actors, says Erik Åberg, local police chief Malmö south, to Sydsvenskan.

The law that gives the police the right to introduce visitation zones, also known as security zones, came into force in the spring. Since then, the police in Norrköping and Södertälje have introduced visitation zones for a certain period of time.

In a visitation zone, the police are allowed to search people who are in public places in the area, including children, without suspicion of a crime.
