Real Madrid's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, came out on Monday and stated that the club will not be participating in the World Championship next summer.
However, the club itself is now denying Ancelotti's statement.
"We wish to clarify that there has never been any question", the club writes on its website.
The men's World Championship is to be expanded to 32 teams from next year and will be held in the USA. Among the clubs that have qualified are the Spanish giants Real Madrid, who recently won the Champions League.
Coach Ancelotti earlier stated to the Italian newspaper Il Giornale, according to AFP, that the club would not participate.
However, the club itself has now chosen to contradict the coach's statement.
"Real Madrid wishes to clarify that there has never been any question regarding our participation in the new World Championship, organised by Fifa for the upcoming season. Our club will therefore participate in the tournament as planned", the club writes on its website.
Later, Carlo Ancelotti also came out and claimed that the interview was not interpreted correctly.
"In my interview with Il Giornale, my words about the World Championship were not interpreted as I intended. Nothing is further from my interest than to dismiss the possibility of participating in a tournament that is a great opportunity to continue winning titles with Real Madrid", the 65-year-old writes on X.
The new format includes twelve teams from Europe, six teams from South America, four teams from Africa, Asia, and North and Central America, and one team from Oceania. The final spot goes to the host country, which in 2025 will be the USA.
In the last World Championship, in 2023, seven clubs participated.
