The European football association (Uefa) is banning the Albanian football player Mirlind Daku for two matches. Uefa announced this on Sunday afternoon.
The reason is that Daku, after the 2-2 match in the European Championship against Croatia, allegedly sang hateful chants about Serbia and North Macedonia.
Daku has since apologised for his behaviour.
The chants became a major talking point after the match. The Serbian football association was outraged and threatened to leave the European Championship.
What happened is scandalous and we will demand punishment from Uefa, even if it means we cannot complete the tournament, said general secretary Jovan Surbatovic according to AP.
Albania's football association is also being fined over half a million kronor for the use of pyrotechnics, pitch invasion and "provocative messages". Croatia's football association is being fined over 300,000 kronor for using and throwing pyrotechnics.
Albania plays its last group stage match against Spain on Monday and still has a chance to advance to the finals.
