Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces that Israel's war goals are expanding northwards: "The security council has updated the war goals this evening to include the following section: A safe return for residents in the north (near the border with Lebanon) to their homes". At the same time, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warns the USA of an imminent military operation in Lebanon.

Tuesday, September 17
In the afternoon, hundreds of people-searchers start ringing, and then explode, all over Lebanon and Syria. Over 2,000 people are injured and at least 12 are killed, including two children. Many of those affected were members of Hezbollah. A few grams of inserted explosives are believed to have caused the explosions.

Wednesday, September 18
A new coordinated attack on communication equipment – primarily walkie-talkies – used by Hezbollah members. At least 20 people are killed and around 500 injured when the devices explode, including at a funeral.

Thursday, September 19
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah delivers a speech from a secret location. He states that the Iran-backed movement has "received a harsh and cruel blow". While Nasrallah delivers his speech, Israeli fighter jets fly low over Beirut. Israel carries out several airstrikes against Hezbollah's launch ramps.

Friday, September 20
An Israeli airstrike hits a residential building in al-Dahiya in Beirut. The high-rise building is leveled to the ground, at least 45 people are killed, including several children, according to Lebanon's health department. Commander Ibrahim Aqil in Hezbollah's military branch Radwan is killed.

Saturday, September 21
Extensive Israeli airstrikes against targets in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military says 400 Hezbollah targets are hit. Hezbollah fires rockets at northern Israel, and air raid sirens sound in over 70 Israeli cities. Most of the rockets are shot down.

Sunday, September 22
Hezbollah fires over 100 rockets, missiles, and drones at Israel, hitting targets five miles into Israel. It is the first time Hezbollah rockets have reached so far into the country since the terrorist-listed Hamas attack on Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023.

Monday, September 23
Israeli fighter jets attack over 1,600 targets in Lebanon as part of Operation "Northern Arrows", according to the Israeli military. Nearly 500 people, including more than 35 children, are killed in the raids, and at least 1,600 are injured. Netanyahu warns of "complicated days" ahead.
