The opposition in the Canadian parliament has requested a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
The coalition government led by Trudeau lost its majority in parliament earlier in September since the social democratic NDP jumped out of the agreement.
The conservative Tory party, which is doing well in opinion polls, has taken the opportunity to try to bring down Trudeau and his Liberals – who are losing – and thus get a new election.
The opposition is not expected to win the vote, as two smaller parties have signaled that they will side with the government.
Tory leader Pierre Poilievre says, however, that he will not give up in the event of a loss, and has warned of new attempts already in October.
In a recent opinion poll, the conservatives would get 43 percent if there were an election today, compared to the Liberals' 21 percent and the NDP's 19 percent.
