The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss the development in Ukraine and the Russian invasion war, while the General Assembly began this year's general debate.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky was invited by the Council and said that Russia must be forced to make peace, "and that's exactly what is needed – pressuring Russia to make peace".

We know that some in the world want to talk to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, and hear that he is angry because we are defending our people, said Zelensky.

The Ukrainian President also took the opportunity to broaden the accusations of aggressive war to include North Korea and Iran.

Zelensky said that the two countries were "accomplices" in the war against Ukraine.

He received support from the US representative, Foreign Minister Antony Blinken, who urged the UN to take action against the two countries and the support they provide to Russia.

Support from Tehran and Pyongyang helps Putin to create bloodshed, suffering, and destruction among Ukrainian men, women, and children, said Blinken.

China, which, like the US and Russia, is a permanent member of the Security Council, was represented by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He said that China rejects accusations from the US that the country is taking a stance in the war.

China did not create the Ukraine crisis, and we are not part of it. China has always stood on the side of peace, said Foreign Minister Wang.
