The Israeli military, IDF, had already stated on Tuesday that Kobeissi died in the attack, which destroyed three floors of a six-story building and killed a total of six people. This is now confirmed by Hizbollah.
IDF had previously stated that Kobeissi was responsible for several attacks against Israel, and that he was involved in planning an attack in which three Israeli soldiers were kidnapped and killed in 2000.
According to Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli military, at least two more commanders were killed in the attack.
Over 560 dead
Meanwhile, the Israeli air raids against Lebanon continue. Early on Wednesday, explosions were heard in Beirut by AFP's journalists on the spot.
A source within the Lebanese security service tells the news agency that attacks have been directed against the coastal town of Saadiyat, about two miles south of Beirut.
Over 560 people are reported to have been killed in the recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon, according to the country's health authorities, and 1,800 have been injured. 50 of the dead are children.
Many internal refugees
Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes in southern Lebanon after the conflict escalated in recent days. Panic-stricken families are flocking to Beirut and the coastal town of Sidon, where they are taking shelter in schools that have been converted into temporary accommodations. Some are forced to sleep in their cars, in parks, or on the beach.
Nearly half a million people are now internal refugees in the country, according to Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib in connection with the UN General Assembly. Before the attacks, around 110,000 Lebanese lived as refugees in their own country.
